Since 2002, House of Design has purchased, sold and renovated original furniture from the Golden Age of Danish Modern furniture. Our furniture is designed by well-known Danish architect-designers such as Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, Mogens Koch, Børge Mogensen, Poul Kjærholm and Kaare Klint, and made by cabinetmakers and furniture producers in the best craftsman tradition.

The owner of House of Design, Lars Hildebrandt, was trained in the late 1970s as a skilled cabinetmaker at Rud. Rasmussen. This well-known workshop in Copenhagen was a member of the famed Cabinetmakers’ Exhibitions and has produced Kaare Klint’s and Mogens Koch’s furniture ever since the 1930s.

With more than 30 years of practice as a cabinetmaker, Lars has the knowledge and experience required to provide the best possible service and advice to the passionate collector as well as to the first time buyer of modern Danish vintage furniture.

House of Design’s showroom is combined with a workshop, which means that not only do we offer advice to prospective buyers about the design and craftsmanship of our collection. We also renovate and repair modern Danish furniture.

Over the years, Lars has expertly renovated Danish vintage furniture for auction houses, galleries and private collectors, as well as for our own showroom, of course.

In our showroom all pieces of furniture have been renovated before they are exhibited for sale. All renovations and repairs are carried out in accordance with the traditions of the craft of cabinetmaking and with respect for the patina that is such an important characteristic of Danish vintage furniture. Even furniture in need of major renovation can be made beautiful again in our workshop.

House of design is open all weekdays from 10 am to 5.30 pm. You are always welcome to pay us a visit and look at our collection – on Facebook or in the showroom. Even if you are just looking for a chat about our shared passion: furniture from the golden age of Danish Design.

Best regards

Lars Hildebrandt
